Grades 8-12
Pre-High School CONSULTING SERVICE
• Encourage students to take challenging classes in English, Algebra, Physical Science, History (Citizenship), Humanities (Arts), and Foreign Language.
• Assist students to develop strong study skills.
• Guide students to start thinking about high school classes that will best prepare for college.
• Help students to select appropriate high school to meet their individual needs.
• Inspire students to think about future goals and develop a plan to achieve their dreams.
• Empower students to start portfolio of best work, special achievements, and certificates.
9th Grade (Freshman Year)
• Enroll students in a college preparatory curriculum including rigorous challenging courses recommended by most selective universities.
• Develop a four year individual high school chart of courses.
• Remind students to study hard and perform well in academics considering semester grades will be on transcript for college applications.
• Suggest extra-curricular activities, sports, and volunteer/community service opportunities for students to participate in.
• Encourage to students to build great relationships with school counselor and teachers especially to request for strong recommendation
• letters later.
10th Grade (Sophomore Year)
• Remind students to take the PSAT at the beginning of the school year.
• Assist to students to research careers in terms of skills, interests, and goals to help them think about possible college majors.
• Encourage students to be involved with their school if they have not done so yet especially to be pro-active for leadership role opportunities.
• Suggest to students to consider an interesting summer job, travel, or other learning experience.
11th Grade (Junior Year)
• Advise students in regards to college requirements of various levels.
• Assist students in registering and preparing for college entrance exams (SAT, ACT, SAT II Subject Tests, TOEFL).
• Help students to research information of various colleges in order to create a preliminary list of prospective colleges that meet important
• criteria such as size, location, major, academic rigor, housing, and total cost of attendance.
• Advise students to take every opportunity to improve writing skills and also to retake any classes with unsatisfactory grade by the end of
• this summer.
12th Grade (Senior Year)
• Have students request and collect information from various colleges.
• Suggest for students to retake any college entrance exams to improve scores if necessary by December.
• Help students create a final list of at least 10 colleges and develop an individualized timetable of application submission deadlines.
• Remind students to give advance notice to their counselor and teachers for strong recommendation letters.
• Assist students to prepare outstanding unique personal essay/statement for their college applications and also edit for revisions.
• Guide students with each step of the application process in particularly to follow specific instructions and guidelines of individual colleges.
• Have students verify with respective colleges regarding receiving all the necessary documents such as application forms, transcripts, test
• scores, recommendation letters, and portfolios if required.
• Assist students to find and apply for scholarships.
• Guide students in choosing the ‘best fit’ college where individual needs will be met.
